Bhupender Yadav, Minister for Labour and Employment Department launched the e-Shram portal and handed it over to the States/UTs on 26th August 2021 in the presence of Rameswar Teli who is the Minister of State for Labour & Employment and Petroleum & Natural Gas. The Labour Department of India first time issued the national database of unorganized workers. The Narendra Modi government aims to integrate social welfare schemes and help unorganized workers. The registration process is free of cost and the issued 12 digit number card will be acceptable across the country. Candidates who will register for this scheme will be eligible to get the benefits mentioned under the e-Shram Portal scheme. As per the scheme, registered employees will be given an insurance coverage of Rs.2 lakh through Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) in case of death or complete disability. On the other side, if the worker is partially disabled then he will be entitled to Rs 1 lakh under this insurance scheme.
