The Department of Posts has officially released the India Post GDS 2nd Merit List 2026 on April 10, 2026, on its official website, indiapostgdsonline.gov.in. This release has got a fresh opportunity for thousands of candidates who applied for the 28,636 vacancies across 23 postal circles but were not selected in the initial round. Shortlisted candidates must now prepare for the mandatory Document Verification (DV) process, which is scheduled to be completed by April 27, 2026. Notably, due to the Model Code of Conduct, the merit lists for specific circles—including Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal—have been temporarily withheld and will be announced at a later date.

Shortlisted candidates must now report to their respective divisional offices for the Document Verification (DV) process, which is mandatory for final selection. You are required to bring your original documents, including your Class 10 mark sheet, category certificate (if applicable), and valid identity proof, along with two sets of photocopies. The deadline to complete this verification is April 27, 2026. It is important to remember that selection is based purely on Class 10 merit, and failure to attend the verification session or provide accurate documentation will result in the immediate cancellation of your candidature.
India Post GDS 2nd Merit List 2026: Overview
The selection process for India Post GDS is unique because it doesn’t involve a written exam or an interview. It is purely based on your Class 10 (Matriculation) marks.

Why was the 2nd Merit List Delayed?
Many candidates wonder why there was a gap between the lists. The primary reason is the Document Verification (DV) process. Shortlisted candidates from the first list had until March 23, 2026, to verify their credentials.
Since this window closed, the department calculated the “rejection data”—vacancies that remained open because candidates failed to show up, had incorrect documents, or declined the offer. The 2nd Merit List was essentially a “waited list” that moved up to fill these gaps.
Expected Cut-Off Trends
While the first list often sees cut-offs touching 95–100% in many circles, the second list usually sees a slight dip (0.5% to 2%).
- General/UR: 92% – 98%
- OBC: 88% – 95%
- SC/ST: 82% – 90%
- PWD: 75% +
