On Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) Programme of Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management
Introduction
Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) is a programme of Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM) accredited by AICTE. It is a premium product, which has a unique value in itself. It is a blend of functional and sectoral orientation, giving opportunity to the would be corporates to widen their horizons, and to specialize in areas highlighting tourism as the back-bone of the course.
Objectives
This programme aims at preparing graduates for taking up employment in a business organisation, or self employment and / or carrying forward their family businesses. The objectives of this programme of study are threefold-
- To enable young learners develop a business sense, and to sensitise them to nuances of service scenarios, with special reference to tourism and other allied areas.
- To introduce and train graduates, especially for managing tourism and hospitality businesses, among others.
- To learn principles and practices of management, especially in service sector companies, to enable and equip them as such, so that they are able to apply it in real life situations, and to start new business ventures.
Accordingly, the programme has a large component of working in real world situations under the careful guidance of mentors.
Course Structure
- This is an intensive programme of study of 2 academic sessions.
- The programme shall be divided into four semesters and there shall be an examination at the end of each semester.
- Each semester shall comprise of nine courses, each of three hours per week equivalent to teaching obligation and equal amount of self study.
- This programme is a full-time programme of the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management.
Eligibility
Candidates seeking admission to the PGDM programme shall be required to possess a bachelor’s degree (10+2+3 pattern) in any discipline of a University or equivalent thereto.
Admission process
Admission to the programme shall be through an admission process of 100 points.
A weight of 70% shall be for the performance in a centralised All India Admission Test.
Another 15% points each are for Personal Interview (PI) and Group Discussion (GD) respectively. Merit for admission to the programme shall be determined by the institute

Practical exercises and trainings
Programme shall increasingly depend on practical exercises and trainings as a part of the pedagogy.
- Intervening period between second and third semester shall be used for summer training in an industrial/business unit.
- During the third semester, learners shall develop a business plan.
- During the fourth semester, students shall undertake a project study under the supervision of the faculty.
Specializations to be offered
This programme shall offer dual specialisation. One of the specialisations will be in Sectoral Electives (4 papers, either in Financial services / Tourism Management / Hospitality Management *), and the second one will be in Functional Electives (4 papers, either in Marketing / Finance / Human Resource).
