ENTRERENEURESHIP DEVELOPMENT CELL
The art Crafts are an integral part of the heritage and identity of a community, which gives them distinct them distinct features viz-a-viz othe communities. But a majority of arts and crafts are either on the verge of extinction or facing sever threats to its arts and crafts are either on the verge of extinction or facing sever threats to its continuance due to a multitude factors. Some of the major factors are the lack of economic avenues for the craftsmen, social and economic reasons, absence of credit support mechanism, inefficient/inadequate distribution network of the art and craft products and the middle men. One-way of sustaining these art and craft forms, and thereby the artisans, is building up of confidence in all those involved and developing entrepreneurial and; management skills in them.
There exists a “symbiotic relationship” between tourism and “heritage conservation, the art and craft have been vital elements of tourists’ search for euthenics. The uniqueness of these heritage forms gives the tourist a feeling of ‘Something exotic’, different and a valuable possession to carry home either in memories of physical object. Infect the collection of various craft forms as souvenirs are as old as the Roman civilization. It is this inquisitiveness of the tourist for exotic objects and memoirs’ that can be use by the destination communities to conserve and sustain many art and craft forms that are facing threats to its’ existence.
The EDP cell is looking forward training activities. Institute select students and people from neighbours areas. The duration of these programmes are from 2-3 days of week/month duration. The programme will cover various dimensions of entrepreneurship such as resources/ capital mobilization, ways and means of taking critical business decisions, importance of forming co-oprative networking, marketing of the arts and crafts etc.
The projects are multi-dimensional in nature, besides faculty members from the institute, assistance will be taken from the industry and govt. officials dealing with art and craft promotion, the official’s financial institutions and art ant craft cooperatives, NGOs etc. The innovative pedagogy including the modern training aids will be used to make the programmes effective and rewarding.
The objectives are finalized keeping in mind the fact that preservation of the diversity of art and craft forms and tourism development are com0plementary to each other. A healthy tourism industry cannot exist without rich heritage including art and crafts. But, the reality is that the art and craft segment is still very much an unorganized activity, which need the patronage and support of the government, NGOs and cooperative nd the tourists for its’ sustenance. But, such patronage and support will be meaningful only when the art and craftsmen realize importance of their skill and develop a sense of professionalism in them. The objective of th4 project thus developed is a follows:
- To identify and develop the craft men about the ways and men’s of resource mobilization.
- To identify and develop entrepreneurship in the art/craft man.
- To develop a sense of pride among the art and craft men.
- To appraise the crafts men about the application of modern technology in innovative design and finding new market/audience.
- To enhance the management capabilities of the art/craftsmen.
